At the end of last month, Pope Leo XIV signed Magnifica Humanitas, and released it to the world. It is the first papal encyclical in history focusing on the human person in the age of artificial intelligence. If you work in Catholic education, you need to know about it. Not because it's obligatory. Because it's genuinely extraordinary.

 

The encyclical includes 245 paragraphs and covers everything from the theology of human dignity to the governance of AI algorithms. But it contains a whole chapter on education and it speaks directly to the situation Catholic schools in Aotearoa and Australia are navigating right now.​
